Because it makes it easier for me to read, I included a lot of doodles and pieces of my thumbnails in my script. It's also helpful for me because while I find scripts very helpful to remember what NEEDS to happen on each page in order to move the story forward without hiccups, I often find while drawing a page that I rewrite all the dialogue to feel more correct to what the characters would actually say. Script-writing Chloe can be too analytical, and doesn't always have the best grasp of flow. Art Chloe has just spent a lot of hours looking at her characters' little faces and has more of a drive to portray them correctly. (Here's an example from the dummy I'm drawing, in which I actually 100% changed one of the lines to be the OPPOSITE from the script HA) Anyways! That's all I've got for right now. I do still have a few things to change with this script, but that editing is going to happen when I do the thumbs/layouts, so I'm not going to worry about them. Oh, and as a final note, I managed to pare down the story by about 20 pages!! The script is 291 pages, and I'm hoping that I can get the final version down even more. That's way better than the 320 pages I was estimating!! PHEW!

I visited my friends just after the new year for a good week of rest and calm! We sat on the couch and watched a lot of Friends (I'd never seen it before) and I worked on the Roomstyler set for Manny's house. I love making my little Roomstyler sets but usually don't let myself spend too much time on them so it was a fun treat for me!! Whereas I wanted Aradhana's house to be really wacky and unusual, with a lot of odd items, I feel like Manny's house would be very calm and clean and his parents would have a lot of custom built furniture. I did go to the bookstore and flip through a few architecture design books to try to find a weird interior layout, which is why I've got that big central garden. In the actual finished art I intend to have a little bit more strangeness going on with that garden, but I guess we'll just all have to wait and see how it turns out. :) As of right now, my (very uneducated, extremely rough) guess as to page count for the final product is 320ish pages. That's still more than I intended this comic to be when I set out writing it, but it's a million times more doable than the 600+ pages I estimated it would be at back when I first started editing the script into pages in, like, February of this year.
I'm guessing that estimation will change as I move forward... I still have some more scenes to add, and some to delete. But for now this is a good ballpark, I guess?????????? Comics with other long page counts: (for my ref) Space Dumplins by Craig Thompson: 320 Hey, Kiddo by Jarrett J. Krosoczka: 320 This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki: 320 Stand Still, Stay Silent Vol. 1 by Minna Sundberg: 323 Stand Still, Stay Silent Vol. 2 by Minna Sundberg: 260 Stand Still, Stay Silent Vol. 3 by Minna Sundberg: 306 Fake Blood by Whitney Gardner: 336 Long Distance by Whitney Gardner: 320 This Was Our Pact by Ryan Andrews: 350 A Redtail's Dream by Minna Sundberg: 608 Aradhana started out as a 5 page short comic that I drew in about 2 and a half days for Ghost City Comics' 5x5 Fest competition. It ended up winning second place!! Full comic below the break.
